Castries is the main urban area of St. Lucia, it is the city of the island. St. Lucia's history is one by which is was battled by the French and the English 14 times. The Britsh won 7times, the French won 7times. One of the main discrepancies with our history was that it was found by Christopher Columbus. The picture below shows a pciture of the Derek Walcott square formerly known as the Christopher Columbus Square. The square is the pride of the people as it is used on a daily basis for recreation, study entertainment, educational and social purposes. The Derek Walcott Square brings people together which was one of Jane Jacobs main principles of a city the process by which there is a mixed purpose and dense concentration of people
